The Plan

The Read901 Early Literacy Plan was written by the Read901 coalition to serve as a roadmap for the creation of a county-wide culture that supports and encourages reading in a child’s earliest years.

These priorities are the strategies that will guide the work of the Read901 Coalition and are coordinated by the Early Literacy Consortium. This plan is designed to align and amplify the work already happening across our county while identifying and filling critical gaps.

The plan focuses on 6 key priorities:

  1. Strengthen Birth-5 Early Literacy

  2. Build Place-Based Literacy Ecosystems

  3. Build Community-Wide Volunteer & Tutoring Systems

  4. Ensure Culturally Sustaining Literacy Experiences

  5. Coordinate Systems, Advocacy & Policy

  6. Establish Community Partnership Plans with School Districts

About the Key Priorities

Each priority has specific strategies that will be phased out periodically. They also have a Priority Team who is responsible for ensuring that the key strategies are being implemented and progress is being tracked.

All priority strategies have the objectives of:

  • Strengthening early literacy practices across community-wide programs

  • Community and Family feedback and engagement

  • Creating a network of strong partners and key stakeholders who are engaged regularly

  • Coordinated messaging and advocacy across the network of partners

  • Expanding shared models and best practices

How will the Priority Teams do the work of the plan?

Priority Teams will not begin as indefinite monthly committees. Instead, the first phase will operate as a structured planning sprint, with a defined series of meetings designed to produce specific decisions and deliverables.

Collective Impact guidance recommends this kind of intentional working-group design: working groups should move from strategic direction to implementation planning and shared measurement, with clear support from backbone team during their early months.
